Potty Training Burn Out
January 17, 2007 – 11:38 amI am not sure when enough is enough. We have been trying to get out of the pull-up during naptime. Cause he just waits to do all the business until that pull-up goes on. How ever he is no master of the wake up and run to the potty.
We have been working for about …… 6 months and now it is such a chore to get him to go. He is too busy playing, running, jumping, and other things to be bothered by a trip to the potty. We have tried the bribes and they are going downhill fast.
So this week ….. It is naked time. Yep I figure that is when he runs to the toilet the best is when he is naked. He won’t sit in the back room grunting cause he knows what is gonna happen. He won’t have the problem of taking off any undies that are just too complicated with that elastic band, and those cartoons on them.
If you have any other suggestions for a first timer (for the past 6-7 months) I would love to know what ya got!

okay, my two cents.
buy plastic sheet to protect the mattress and remove pull up from the equation. He will learn soon enough. Pull ups are evil. My first three I was so careful with pull ups and lordy it took FOREVER to get them trained. My youngest, I just said forget it. She was potty trained the fastest, even at night. It’s the pull ups for a while or perhaps a week of heavy laundry. I’d go for the laundry, personally, but that is what worked for my four.

Have you tried a potty chart? You can find them online to print for free. Everytime he goes potty he gets a sticker. When the chart is all filled up he gets a new toy. We bought our son a Thomas Train at the end of each one. (It costs about the same as diapers, plus think about all the money you’ll be saving on future diapers!)
We tried everything, even the naked weekend . It took three full charts to have him trained, he held out for a while with number two. Totally worth trying.

Letting him run around naked works like a charm, I’ve done it. I had a very stubborn 3 year old who refused to use the potty. He would wait till I changed his nappy (yes, its sad, at this age he was still wearing nappies) and then do his business. One day I just decided enough was enough and I refused to put a clean nappy on him. I left him screaming in the room that he needed to go and he needed a nappy NOW and I just waited. After five minutes he couldn’t wait any longer and he used the potty. And after that I never put another nappy on him again. Yep…it definitely worked. By they way, the kid wasn’t mine, I was just caring for him, I was an au pair.
