Fine Dining
April 23, 2006 – 6:18 amToday was a pretty full day. Part of it was spent pleasently eating at the local "Chinese Buffet". Which is really a good knock off of the "Home Town Buffet" only it has a mongolian BBQ (Great for the Low Carb crew I hang with).
We had the kids with us so I was making multiple rounds to the watermelon trough. I love the endless amounts of jello in small cubed squares almost as much as my kids. SOOOOO we are all sitting enjoying our meal and a smerk comes over the face of our asian waiter. I stop for a minute and then it happens…
The background music suddenly changes from our ethnic light toned music to a very familure tune. And it seems to be turned up. LOUD. Unusually LOUD. Then as if the enormous photo of the Great Wall of China could roll it’s eyes at us as if to say "Oh no they are playing that music again".
No, I am not joking when I write these lines…please don’t ask me if I am joking.
The entire resturant was jamming to the tune of……
"Happy Bursh-day to you, Happy Bursh-day to you! Happy Bursh-day dear Frank, Happy Bursh-day to you!!"
I stopped mid scoop of the chocolate pudding and started silently giggling. Shaking harder with each verse.
The song went into Mandarin Chinese for the second verse. I was now loosing it, and had a hard time keeping my composure for the walk back to my table. My husband leaned over and said quietly
"Happy Bursh-day" This smelled of a familure scene in "A Christmas Story".
From then on it was over, we all got the Church giggles. The ones you try and stifle, and it only makes it that much more funny. TGI Fridays has it’s peppy songs for birthdays and so does our local Chinese Buffet!!
We love going there, and now for all new reasons!!
I would like to add that every word was spoken with a perfect mastery of the english launguage except for one.

A waiter at a Chinese restaurant once described an item on the dessert menu as “Remon Jerro”. Of course, we can never call it “lemon jello” again! MMMmmmmm, LOVE Chinese food!

LOL! Too funny! I love our local Chinese place. But there is one I crave in my hometown. It’s coming to me soon. Only a few more weeks. Then I shall have my food.

Ok, two comments in a row. That’s just too funny to ignore! And I totally know what it is to get the giggles in church and try not to show it. It sort of starts as little muscle spasms in the pit of my stomach, and I hope no sound escapes me. Then it moves to the tell-tale twitch of my shoulders and clamping my hand over my mouth to keep the sound in. I carefully look right and left to see if anyone has noticed. Pretty soon, my body is shaking and if I don’t get up and leave, I’m going to guffaw right out loud or worse yet, snort! It’s especially bad when your Dad is the preacher and you just hope with all your heart that he doesn’t see you!
